Notes from Sydney's Northern Beaches as summer comes back

Every year, Sydney shifts in its own quiet way. Mornings soften, the ocean warms up, and sunsets feel like they last forever.

For us, this coast isn't simply a backdrop for product shoots; it’s where Bower began. The Northern Beaches shape everything we make, from how we think about water resistance to how our watches fit into our lives.

Sydney summer doesn’t show up all at once. It comes in through small, real moments: early-morning surf when the waves are clean, and there’s no less crowd (sigh); the sound of sneakers on the court during a late game of tennis, pickleball, or padel; then a quick walk into the ocean to cool down.

Right now, it’s whale season. From the high cliffs at North Head, Long Reef, or Avalon, you can see pods heading north. Seeing a huge humpback whale jump from the water from the beach is a powerful reminder of how beautiful the world is. It helps put daily life in perspective.

As the sun sets, the momentum moves toward Manly Wharf. There is a guilty pleasure in finding a spot overlooking the water at Felons, watching the ferries cross the harbour while settling into Tuesday night trivia with friends. It’s easy, observational, and completely unhurried.

Later, people leave the water and head into the neighbourhood. Maybe it’s a table at Pocket Pizza with a cold Italian lager, or picking up a crisp Australian white wine or French cider from Winona to take home. It’s a lifestyle that values quality over trends and good company over a packed schedule.

We designed our watches to fit right into these everyday moments. They can handle the waves at the beach, look good after a tennis match, and stay out of the way when you’re just enjoying the view. Here’s to long days, salty hair, and the sun's return.
